Last week we opened a bottle of the Volcanic Hills Magma White (you can read that blog and about the winery here) and this week we decided to give the Volcanic Hills Eruption a try. Eruption was also purchased at the winery on our trip through the Okanagan a couple of months ago. Eruption has won a couple of recent awards including a Silver at the 2013 Okanagan Fall Wine Festival.
2009 Volcanic Hills Eruption
Eruption is a blend of 40% Merlot, 32% Syrah and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes planted in the South Okanagan near Oliver, B.C. Interestingly the vines were about 10 years old before being harvested the first time for wine making having been planted between 1996 and 2000. The wine has aromas of dark fruits although the wine is a light burgundy colour. There were blackberries and plum in the taste with some very smooth oak flavours in the finish. Overall we really enjoyed it and would give this wine another try… however according to their website this wine is now sold out and there is not another vintage of Eruption currently listed for sale. Bummer!
