Now that the sun has arrived (occasionally) in Vancouver the food truck line ups are even longer than usual. Luckily we can get in line before the lunch crowd. In order to take advantage of the weather and our last full time month in VanCity we have visited two of our fav food trucks in the last few weeks.
Yolk’s – 500 Burrard @ Pender
Yolk’s has two restaurant locations as well as a truck permanently on Burrard Street. We have only been to the truck but have heard the restaurants are great as well. For those who like breakfast, but don’t like to get up early – aka ‘us’ – Yolk’s is open from 8am to 2pm and has the perfect menu.
Free Range Poached Eggs are served with choice of protein hollandaise or cheese and choice of bottom. Our fav is one poached with double smoked bacon (hold the arugula) on truffle lemon hashbrowns topped. It’s a toss up between hollandaise and aged white cheddar as a topper so you will have to go twice! The food is so good you will want to go more times than that anyway.
Mom’s Grilled Cheese – Vancouver Art Galley (Howe and Robson)
This one will always be a favorite. Who dosen’t love ooey, gooey melted cheese?
Mom’s Grilled Cheese always has a line up so go before 11:45 or after 1pm. The daily special is always good but there are so many other options on the build your own menu. Choose your bread – Sour Dough, Multi Grain, Marble Rye, gluten free. Choose your cheese – Swiss, Cheddar, Havarti, Pepper Jack, Provolone, Vegan cheese available for extra $. There are deluxe add ons– red onion, dill pickle, tomato and super deluxe add ons – double cheese, double smoked bacon, sliced turkey breast. Standard sandwiches come with a dill pickle and a few plain kettle chips.
Anyone have a favorite food truck in Vancouver or elsewhere that we should know about?
