We had a chance to attend a great event last night in the Wine Room at Joey’s Bentall One (Pender & Burrard). The event was A Night to Remember – Wine Tasting & Silent Auction in support Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. For only $25 per ticket we were treated to a wine flight and entry into the door prize draw.
The event organizer, Michael-James Pennie, is attempting to raise $10,000 for Alzheimer’s this year through a number of initiatives including the wine event and on-line donations. However his final push, to raise awareness and create inspiration for those suffering with Alzheimer’s, is to climb Africa’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. His climb of 19,330 feet will have him face low levels of oxygen and potentially life threatening altitude sickness which already makes his effort inspirational.
Back to the event. The Wine Room was a great venue and being treated to an opening pairing of three white or red selections was a great way to kick off the evening. We had not been to Joey’s or the Wine Room at this location since it opened last December and now that we have we’ll be back. The menu has both standard and unique fare designed specifically to go with the wine flights (or glass or bottle if you prefer). While the wine list is not overly intimidating or deep there are some very unique selections and the servers are quite knowledgeable. The Spicy Italian flatbread, almost like a pizza, was excellent and a must try!
If you missed this great event and the opportunity to support the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C., have no fear you have another chance to get behind this great cause. Michael-James Pennie is attempting to set the all time 24 donation record for Alzheimer’s. He will be asking for donations from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM on August 28th to achieve his goal.
