Yaletown Eats at the Hurricane Grill
We took advantage of another beautiful Sunday (last week) to bike for a late breakfast at the Hurricane Grill in Yaletown across from the False Creek Marina. It was still warm enough to sit outside on the sunny patio and we were lucky enough to get a great table facing the water. With four types of ‘Benny’ to choose from it was a difficult task but I chose the Hurricane Benny and was very happy with the choice. The combination of turkey bacon, grilled tomatoes and spinach was topped off with eggs that were cooked exactly to order at medium-well (and with poached eggs that is not always easy). But even better was the deliciously creamy, but not too rich cream cheese sauce that was used to cover the Bennys instead of the traditional hollandaise. And of course a Peach/Mango Bellini with breakfast is always a good idea. Jeff had the traditional Three Egg breakfast. His eggs were also cooked perfectly to medium and the Honey Ham had great flavor. The service was good and the atmosphere great. Our only complaint was the use of deep fried potato ‘tots’ instead of sliced and grilled whole potatoes.
The Hurricane Grill was excellent and we’ll definitely be heading back for breakfast and maybe dinner too through the winter, but instead of the bike we may take advantage of the Canada Line stop just a block up from the restaurant – Waterfront to waterfront in two stops for only $2.50 on the weekend (round trip if you stay less than 2 hours). And since we have not spent much time in Yaletown the last two years but have enjoyed both the restaurants and the vibe the few times that we have gone we do plan to take advantage of Taste of Yaletown which runs from October 15th to 31st. More than 20 restaurants will be offering special three-course tasting menus for set prices of $25, $35 and $45 with a portion of proceeds raised from each participating restaurant donated to The Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
Food – GREAT, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GOOD
