New Yaletown Eatery
Last night we were invited to a ‘Tweet Up’ at Sweeney’s of Yaletown and left very impressed with a new place to frequent.  The restaurant has been open for 3 months (only one month for dinner) and is located at 1091 Hamilton right beside the Blue Water Café.  There are about 25 seats inside with another 16 or so on the patio.  The decor is casual but warm and the staff are very friendly, but it is really all about the food.

Local and Fresh
The menu is ever changing as all of the ingredients are organic, fresh and as local as possible. Last night’s menu included beef from Pemberton in the Meat Loaf Sandwich (which Jeff had) and chicken from Abbotsford in the BBQ Chicken Pizza which Tara had.  Everything is made fresh and side dish options last night included Oven Roasted Vegetables, Roasted Potatoes and a variety of greens.  There is no deep fryer to be found.  Soups are made from scratch daily (as is the rest of the menu) and with different dishes every day it is a place that you cannot get tired of.

Cheap Wine
The manager Gerard was a great host explaining the menu items and making great recommendations and with the open kitchen design we could watch the Chef at work.  To accompany our evening we enjoyed more than one bottle of Quail’s Gate Rose.  The wine list offered is well picked and well priced with mainly local selections all available by the glass (two sizes) and the bottle.  And the wine prices are great!  Expect less mark up than your typical Yaletown eatery.  Beer is currently only available in the bottle but a new bar and draft station is planned for the future. Sweeney’s is currently open on weekdays at 10am and on weekends at 5pm.  You can dine in for lunch or dinner or take out some “fast-slow food” either way you are sure to be happy with the food.
