Visit to Winnipeg
Last week we were in Winnipeg for a wedding, two birthdays, a trip to the lake and family visiting. It was my Uncle’s 65th birthday the night before the wedding and almost all of our family (Tara’s side) was able to get together (17 in total) for dinner at The Forks. We have dined at Sydney’s before with a large group and usually do not write about the same restaurant twice but the food is very good and the menu is interesting so we wanted to share some more photos. (Read last year’s blog post here.)
Sydney’s at the Forks
Sydney’s is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and for dinner Monday to Saturday. The dinner menu is a 5 course, $55 table d’hôte menu that changes by the month. Many of the dishes are inspired by local ingredients. During the month of July the Eat Winnipeg festival was also running so Sydney’s was also offering a $36 three course menu. Our group chose from both menus. I ordered from the 5 course and Jeff from the 3 course so we could try more dishes between us.
My choices included Tomato Salad with Fromage Frais, Hazelnuts, Greens & Smoked Sea Salt, Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Bacon Lardon & Malted Maple Vinaigrette, Basa En Papillote with Cherry Tomatoes, Thyme, Basil & White Wine and Chocolate Cheesecake Terrine made of Chocolate Cheesecake, White Chocolate Mousse, Chiffon, Ganache & Cappuccino Gelée. The third course was sorbet. From the Eat Winnipeg 3 course menu Jeff chose Grilled Caesar Romaine Hearts with Roasted Garlic Dressing, Reggiano Parma, Bacon & Croutons, Salmon Filet with Ancho Chili Threads, Citrus Segments & Dijon Vinaigrette and Classic Creme Brûlée. The food and the service were very good. Our waiter did a good job of handling our group of 17 and also keeping the bills together by family. It is a good place to celebrate an event with a nice meal.
