20 taps and over 100 bottles
We had been to this Biercraft Bistro location once before when it was still called Stella’s. The decor was much the same as we remember as was the menu so the change over appears to be in name only. The 20 beers on tap and the over 100 bottle selection was still a main feature. I have not always been a beer fan but lately have been trying a few as we seem to have been visiting restaurants that specialize in beer. I tried Leffe Abbey Blonde from Belgium at Six Acres this summer, really enjoyed it and have been ordering it since. I did not see Leffe on the Biercraft menu so ordered Kronenburg Blanc instead. It has now become another favorite. I guess I do like beer, I was just not drinking the right ones! Jeff went with one of his local favourites – Phillips Blue Buck.
Contemporary Comfort Food
The menu can be described as comfort food but with a fresh, local, seasonal twist such as a BLT with applewood smoked bacon and brie, beer battered seasonal catch fish & chips and mac and cheese with emmenthal and grans podano. I ordered a Grilled Cheese with applewood smoked bacon and tomato with the tomato soup of the day. The soup was creamy and delicious with parmesan croutons instead of bread. The sandwich was also good but a bit too greasy to finish it all. Not a healthy lunch but a tasty one that went good with the beer.
Jeff ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich with house-made slaw and frites. It had too much slaw for his liking so I enjoyed a few bites. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful and the fries were crispy and really good. He did not need the dipping sauce which was a chipotle mayo.
Not the healthiest lunch but it was pretty good. The service was good as well and we had a good view of the action of Cambie Street. It is not a restaurant that we would visit often because we cannot walk to it but we would stop on the way home from a meeting if the chance arises.
