International Social Media Week
Social Media Week 2012 is scheduled for September 24th to 28th with 12 cities in nine counties set to host a variety of events throughout the week. Physical participation is estimated at 36,000 with over 150,000 connecting online. Each city creates their own content with 90% of the events being free. The hashtag for Social Media Week 2012 is, you guessed it, #SMW12.
There are eight events currently scheduled in Vancouver (more may appear shortly). While for some reason the Vancouver website is only partially up to date, it does have a 2012 schedule for viewing and registration. All of the Vancouver event locations are downtown (Robson Square, ING Direct, Woodward’s, VCC etc) with only one event, hosted in conjunction with FP Reach 2012, being a paid event.
Where we will be…
We have registered to be a part of four of the eight events over three of the five days.
Social Monitoring, Intelligence and Brand Chatter (ING Direct Cafe, 4pm Monday the 24th) is being hosted by Bosco Anthony. Bosco is an internet marketer who hosts a regular monthly meet-up called Internet Marketing Think Tank in which he provides tremendously valuable content for free! It is not one of those sell, sell, sell meet-ups. Bosco has provided us with tons of information over the last six months about trends and changing internet technology and we have become friends. This is sure to be a ‘don’t miss’ session.
Crisis and Issues Management in Social Media (Woodward’s Atrium, 5:30pm Monday the 24th) is presented by 6S Marketing. 6S Marketing is an innovative digital marketing agency which has been operating and growing in Vancouver for 12 years. We have gotten to know Chris Breikss, co-founder and president, through social media. He was a guest speaker and panel member at our last conference and is often found on the links of some of our clients. The 6S Marketing Blog is updated almost daily and is a wealth of internet, social and mobile information. Follow it!
FP Reach 2012 with Gary Vaynerchuk is an all day paid event (Vancouver Convention Center, 8:30 – 6:00, Thursday the 27th) hosted by the Financial Post. In addition to a one hour keynote by Gary Vanynerchuk the day includes four other speaker/panel sessions, lunch and a trade show. The regular price for the day is $149 (plus HST) but we got our tickets with a promo code for $99 which we would have paid to see Gary Vee alone – so the rest is a bonus. (If you are interested in the code send us an email or comment.)
Dragon’s Den Social Summit (CBC, 1:00 – 5:00, Friday the 28th) is the featured free event of the week hosted by the main sponsors – Socialized, BC AMA, ING Direct, Strutta, M2O, Boston Pizza, CBC and Dragon’s Den. The Dragons’ Den Social Summit is a live-streamed (by M2O) event in a format similar to Dragons’ Den. The panel will be Dragons Jim Treliving founder of Boston Pizza, Bruce Croxon digital pioneer and co-founder of Lavalife and three guest Dragons from BC’s finances and tech start-up community. There will be keynote addresses by Bruce Croxon and Jim Treliving and an opportunity to meet the Dragons at the after event reception with a book signing opportunity for Jim Treliving’s new book.
So if you are looking for us the week of September 24th to 28th you now know where we will be – trying to keep up with the ever changing world of social media, internet marketing, media relations and crisis management. If you would like more information about our friends Bosco Anthony or 6S Marketing give us a call or send us an email.
