Golf and Taxes
The Canadian Golf Industry, specifically NAGA has been working on the issue of golf as a tax deductible expense for several years. If this topic is new to you please read our earlier blog (Golf and Taxes) about the issue including links to NAGA and some media. As the 2015 federal budget was just released NAGA was hoping for some change but instead got disappointment.

Budget Disappointment
A statement written by Golf Canada CEO Scott Simmons was released yesterday through Inside Golf and other channels acknowledging that the request to amend the Income Tax Act was not included in this year’s Federal Budget. He commented that “NAGA will be re-grouping with a view to pushing the golf industry as an election issue. This continues to be an issue of tax fairness and one that all political parties need to hear about before going to the polls.”

Golf Canada Statement Update
In a updated statement today Scott Simmons did add that Government of Canada’s commitment to investing in high performance athletes and coaching does impact the golf industry in a positive way. “Sport Canada funding directed towards golf; specifically in areas of grassroots programs, high performance, coaching and sport science is critical to Canada’s continued growth as a golfing nation.”

It is certain that NAGA and all of its participating golf industry associations will continue discussing the tax fairness issue at a board level as well as with their members and that lobbying efforts will continue. We will continue to post more information as it becomes available.
