Freedom 55 Financial Open set to take place May 23-29

Mackenzie Tour event to showcase top upcoming talent and raise support for community by partnering with Canucks for Kids Fund

The Freedom 55 Financial Open, a Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada event, is set to take place May 23rd through 29th at Point Grey Golf and Country Club.

The tournament kicks off the Mackenzie Tour’s fourth season, where players will aim to make the next step on the path to the PGA TOUR and earn Web.com Tour status by finishing in the top five on the Order of Merit at season’s end.

In addition to showcasing top up-and-coming players, Mackenzie Tour tournaments aim to make a positive impact in the communities where they play, raising more than $1-million for charity since 2013.

Canucks For Kids Fund, which dedicates resources to assist charities which support children’s health and wellness, foster the development of grassroots hockey, and facilitate and encourage education in British Columbia, will be the tournament’s official charity beginning in 2016.

“The Freedom 55 Financial Open is a tremendous chance for golf fans in the Vancouver area to come and check out some excellent golf while supporting a great cause in the local community, and we can’t wait for this year’s tournament to get started,” said Tournament Director David Lee-Fay.

“We are so grateful for the support we are receiving from the Freedom 55 Financial Open,” said Alex Oxenham, Executive Director of the Canucks for Kids Fund. “The funds we receive from this tournament will make a big difference to our community. On behalf of our Board, thank you for helping us help children and families all across BC.”

Freedom 55 Financial, which also serves as the title sponsor of the season-ending Freedom 55 Financial Championship along with Canadian Player of the Week and Player of the Year awards, is set to make the event bigger and better as the title sponsor through 2020.

It’s an honour to have our name attached to this event in support of this very worthy cause,” says Mike Cunneen, Senior Vice-President, Freedom 55 Financial. “We’re committed to helping young people realize their dreams, and helping support the Canucks for Kids Fund aligns well with our values and focus on health and wellness.” The full 2016 Mackenzie Tour schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
